After an impressive premiere at Sundance, studios clamored to outbid each other for “Birth Of A Nation,” a slave drama by Nate Parker. Among the competing studios (Sony, Paramount, Netflix, The Weinstein Company), was Entertainment Studios, with a $20M bid.
Though Fox Searchlight won the negotiations, Byron Allen, Chairman and CEO of Entertainment Studios, says he’s glad to see the film end up at Fox. “Yes, we did make a bid for $20 million and a wide theatrical release for this outstanding film. Nate Parker made the right decision by going with Fox Searchlight, and we made the right bid. I’m very proud of Nate, and he owes me lunch.”
